About
Canal de Isabel II has 4130 employees and, in 2019, a turnover of €984 million. Water is collected using 13 reservoirs and 78 underground collection wells, to supply 6 .5 million citizens of Madrid with drinking water treated at one of their 14 drinking water treatment plants. Canal de Isabel II has a 17,000 km infrastructure system of pipelines, deposits and distribution networks, transporting water from the mountains to the city. Canal de Isabel II has established a strict surveillance program to ensure water quality through their 59 remote-controlled facilities. Urban drainage networks transport wastewater to one of the 157 wastewater treatment plants to help provide sanitation for the city, returning water to riverbeds via 14,000 km of sewerage networks. Over 25% of water is reused for novel uses such as street cleaning, irrigation of public parks, or returned to river. On February 11, 2021 at the first Leading Utilities of the World Online Inauguration, Chief Executive Officer Pascual Fernández, accepted the offer for membership into the Leading Utilities of the World network and received a 'Golden Tap' award for utility performance, representing the achievement of the highest level of utility service.
