About

DC Water distributes drinking water and collects and treats wastewater for more than 672,000 residents and 17.8 million annual visitors in the District of Columbia. DC Water also provides wholesale wastewater treatment services for 1.6 million people in Montgomery and Prince George's counties in Maryland, and Fairfax and Loudoun counties in Virginia. To distribute drinking water and collect wastewater, DC Water operates more than 1,300 miles of pipes and 1,900 miles of sanitary and combined sewers, along with four pumping stations, five reservoirs, four elevated water storage tanks, 22 flow-metering stations, and nine off-site wastewater pumping stations. On April 24, 2017 at the Global Water Summit 2017 in Madrid, Biju George, Chief Operating Officer of DC Water, met with the other members of the Advisory Board to ratify the first six members of the Leading Utilities of the World network, and provide structured feedback on the new members’ future plans. The Advisory Board members and the new members of the LUOW were presented with the ‘Golden Tap’ trophy at the 2017 Global Water Awards to commemorate their membership.
