Emalsa is the public-private water utility serving over 400,000 residents in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. It supplies 77,000 cubic meters of drinking water daily, primarily through advanced seawater desalination, and treats wastewater for reuse in public gardens. Emalsa has achieved a significant reduction in CO2 emissions over five years by investing in energy-efficient desalination and renewable energy sources. On 13th May 2025 at the Global Water Summit in Paris, Angel Fernandez Lopez, Managing Director of Saur Spain, accepted the offer of membership into the Leading Utilities of the World network and received a Golden Tap award, recognising the achievement of the highest level of utility service.
