About
The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) is a regional government agency that provides water reclamation and flood management services for about 1.1 million people in 28 communities in the Greater Milwaukee Area. The agency serves 411 square miles that cover all, or segments of, six watersheds. MMSD is highly regarded nationally as a leader in wastewater treatment, flood management, green infrastructure and much more and is a recipient of the U.S. Water Prize and many other awards. MMSD also instituted a regional stormwater runoff rule and has been a leader for innovative ways to manage stormwater runoff. On April 24, 2017 at the Global Water Summit 2017 in Madrid, Kevin Shafer, Executive Director at the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, met with the other members of the Advisory Board to ratify the first six members of the Leading Utilities of the World network, and provide structured feedback on the new members’ future plans. The Advisory Board members and the new members of the LUOW were presented with the ‘Golden Tap’ trophy at the 2017 Global Water Awards to commemorate their membership.
