About
Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) is an integrated, one water utility that provides drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services. Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers are the main sources of drinking water, and PWD treats over 300 million gallons of water per day. With regards to wastewater, PWD has three water pollution control plants and a biosolids handling facility, and treats over 522 million gallons per day. There is roughly 60% combined sewer, and 40% separate sewer, and PWD is undertaking Green City, Clean Waters, which is a large scale green stormwater infrastructure programme. To date, the programme has reduced CSO volume by approximately 650 GSI projects and traditional infrastructure projects. On November 13, 2019, at the American Water Summit in Houston, Randy Hayman, Commissioner of Philadelphia Water Department, accepted the prestigious invitation for membership into the Leading Utilities of the World network and received a 'Golden Tap' award for utility performance, representing the achievement of the highest level of utility service.
