Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Waterworks is one of the world’s largest urban water utilities, serving more than 13 million residents across the Tokyo metropolitan area. Operating a highly advanced and resilient system, the Bureau manages an extensive network of water treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, and over 27,000 kilometres of distribution pipelines, delivering safe and reliable drinking water to one of the most densely populated cities on Earth.

The utility is internationally recognised for its excellence in water quality management, seismic resilience, and operational efficiency. It has pioneered advanced leak detection, real-time monitoring, and asset management technologies, alongside long-term infrastructure renewal programmes designed to ensure uninterrupted supply in the face of climate, demographic, and disaster-related risks.

On 17th June 2026, at Singapore International Water Week, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Waterworks was inaugurated into the Leading Utilities of the World network, where it was represented by Director General for Technical Affairs Satoshi Suzuki.
