Tucson Water provides local and regional service to 730,000 customers. They have one main potable system, nine isolated systems and a reclaimed system. Their pipe network is 4,800 miles (7,700 km) long. They operate in a semi-arid climate of Sonoran Desert with less than 12 inches (30 cm) of rain annually. On November 13, 2019, at the American Water Summit in Houston, Timothy M. Thomure, Director of Tucson Water, accepted the prestigious invitation for membership into the Leading Utilities of the World network and received a 'Golden Tap' award for utility performance, representing the achievement of the highest level of utility service.
